Neshama Selah are delighted to launch their debut self-titled album on August 1st at Lyrics Underground, Maylands. This project is a collaborative mix of originals by the band’s three core members, Gabby Lee, Will Pethick, and Kira Gunn, and also features some well-loved hymns. United by their collective Christian faith, Neshama Selah exists to write and perform music that is inspired by scripture and the person of Jesus. Each song on the album is linked by this theme of faith in Jesus, and take ideas from different parts of scripture. Drawing from jazz, classical, folk and alternative influences, the band has a unique cross-genre sound.

Neshama Selah was formed by Will and Gabby, who met during their study at WAAPA, and shared the same vision of creating new faith-based music. They were joined by Kira Gunn and Rhys Clark as this vision developed, and the band recorded their album just before Will left to Germany for further study in 2023. Their album launch will feature a very special appearance from Will during a short visit to Perth, and will also feature guest musicians Shyanne Dickerson, and William Lee.

The night will be opened by a set from the wonderful Mariah De Silva.

We are excited to put out an album of our favourite originals and hymn arrangements from previous Hymns Reimagined nights and Goodness Unveiled event 2022. We've been so encouraged by the feedback from audiences that we wanted to make these songs available online!

About

Neshama Selah is a Western Australian cross-genre band who write and perform music inspired by the band’s collective Christian faith. After meeting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and ECU Christian Union, Kira Gunn, Gabby Lee and Will Pethick formed the group at the start of 2022 with a common vision of writing and performing music that is inspired by scripture and the person of Jesus.

The band is formed on a collective Christian faith, making music that speaks from the most important part of their lives - their identity in Christ. Neshama Selah is a listener-supported endeavor with hopes to make music that enriches Christians in creative ways and glorify God, the Creator. They also endeavor to reach people in Perth's secular creative hotspots where the hope and light of Christ isn't prevalent - the group sees it as outreach in the arts with counter-cultural and thought-provoking music.

Neshama Selah has visited local Perth churches as a guest band assisting in leading worship at services with reimagined hymns. Later in the year, the band welcomed a new member - Rhys Clark. In October 2022, Neshama Selah presented an outreach event - Goodness Unveiled, in collaboration with Perth Chinese Christian Church. At this event, the band wrote and performed 6 new originals based on the gospel narrative. Since then, the band has been in the process of producing an album of crowd favourite originals and arrangements from past events.
